High Glycemic Index Food

High glycemic index food will cause a rapid rise in blood sugar and insulin secretion. These are your "once a week" or so foods. They should be used as the occasional treat. All processed foods will fall into this category (you know, it comes in a box with little bags inside the box?) as will ANYTHING made with white flour.

Vegetables and Salad Greens

Carrots (raw) - the trick with carrots is to only eat a few

French fries

Hash browns

Potato chips

Parsnips

White potato (mashed, baked, boiled)

Pumpkin

Fruit

Cantaloupe

Dates (fresh)

Figs (fresh)

Watermelon

Beans, Grains, and Cereal

Bagels

Cookies

Donuts

Millet

Polenta (cooked)

Brown or white rice (boiled)

Cheerios

Grape Nuts

There's something so important that I'm going to say it again: ALL WHITE FLOUR products have a high GI rating. It's best to stay away from them entirely.

And as a side note, if you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, you may have a wheat intolerance. In which case any bread or wheat based product could cause your symptoms to flare up. If this is you, eat only low glycemic for a month and see if you feel better.
